  • Rios e Ribeiras

RIVERS AND STREAMS (Rios e ribeiras) is a program promoted by the Associação para o Estudo e Preservação do Gado Asinino (AEPGA) in partnership with Palombar – Conservação da Natureza e do Património Rural and the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB). It's goal is to develop projects aimed at the recovery and preservation of Portugal’s rivers and streams, with a special focus on Trás-os-Montes and the Peneda-Gerês National Park.

  • European otter habitat restoration

The European otter (Lutra lutra) is a species of the mustelid family (Mustelidae) native to Portugal. It is common throughout the country and inhabits almost all types of aquatic habitats. Elsewhere, the otter is found in Western Europe, Asia, and North Africa. In Portugal, the otter is classified as “Least Concern”, while its international conservation status is “Near Threatened.”

The RIVERS AND STREAMS (Rios e Ribeiras) project will carry out actions aimed at restoring riparian galleries to recover the ecological functions of watercourses and promote the return of the otter and other species to our rivers.
